BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Transportation Coordinator in Mississauga, Ontario
Job Description Summary
The Transportation Coordinator is an integral member of the Customs and Transportation Team and will collaborate across the organization to deliver excellent service to our customers. Key stakeholders and partners include customer service, supply chain, warehouse operations, field service, marketing, and finance. This role will be responsible for planning outbound transportation to BD’s customers in Canada using SAP/TMS and coordinating inbound carrier and courier shipments to BD in Canada by supporting carrier selection, pick-up requirements along with identifying, and addressing service failures with our logistics partners. Additionally, this position will assist in limiting border clearance concerns and will ensure that shipments are accurately declared to customs. As a key team member, the Transportation Planner will partner with the Customs/Logistics Specialist and Transportation Analyst to meet all outbound, inbound and customs business needs. The team will concentrate on improving operational efficiency and cost to serve, while focusing on the customer experience.
Conduct outbound shipment planning and coordination activities using SAP and TMS
Respond to requests for rush or special shipments by contacting appropriate carriers, arranging service and co-ordinating with the Distribution Centre on excellent execution
Act as the point of contact for day-to-day inbound transportation requests including but not limited to handling rush requests, tracking, troubleshooting border delays and customs inquiries
Obtain quarterly reports from inbound carriers to analyze trends and to ensure account remains in good standing
Perform cost estimates and system entries to support customs and transportation product activations (freight and duty accruals)
Escalate claims on carriers and brokers with account managers (as required) to address service failures and improve ongoing relations and service
Work with Global Transportation to address service concerns and negotiated rates (as required)
Ensure inbound courier shipments are compliant with CBSA standards through review, approval, and amendments
Work with Supply Chain Planners and Marketing to perform inbound reviews to determine the best carrier to meet business needs including both cost and service
Responsible for the annual freight additive adjustments to ensure freight accruals accurately estimate projected costs for upcoming fiscal year
Support CASS and inbound carrier freight payment inquiries and approvals (outbound as required)
Support broker compliance and additional customs audit requirements activities and reporting (as required)
Participate on projects or initiatives with the goal to improve operational cost, efficiency, and service
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum completed post-secondary education
1-2 years relevant experience in a similar transportation logistic role (customs experience is an asset)
Excellent problem resolution skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize
Excellent organizational, communication and process management skills
Technical skills: proficient in SAP, Microsoft Excel, experience planning using TMS is an asset
Demonstrated attention to detail and analytical ability and negotiation skills
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
French fluency an asset
