Job Description

The Director will manage the Interventional segment’s strategy to shape global payment pathways to drive adoption of products in the marketplace worldwide. The position is also responsible for integrating market access insights into business strategy and for developing plans that create unique customer revenue opportunities for products and solutions prior to launch as well as those already on the market. In order to ensure favorable access to the portfolio, the Director will develop comprehensive market access strategies with counterparts in other functions, including Regulatory Affairs, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Medical Affairs and R&D.

1. Define payment policy and product reimbursement strategies for the businesses in BD’s Interventional segment

  • Assess market access requirements for instruments and assays across the Interventional portfolio

  • Analyze policies and payment pathways that create opportunities and assess risks for customers and provide insights to business, regional and corporate leaders in order to inform business strategy Develop payment strategies that create positive business outcomes and gains competitive advantage

  • Deliver coverage and coding expertise for all relevant products

  • Shape global payment policies and pathways to ensure favorable access to and reimbursement for Interventional products

  • Provide strategic insight into product design, regulatory pathways and marketing strategies in partnership with new product innovation teams and allied functions

2. Formulate and communicate the segment’s position on payment policies to policymakers, payers, trade associations and other external organizations

3. Partner with colleagues across the organization to harness the company’s global market shaping capabilities to support the business goals of the Interventional segment

4. Oversee the development of payment policy and product reimbursement training as well as implementation of sales tools for the commercial team that leverage payment opportunities for customers

5. Continually seek information on customer and market trends to respond and stay ahead of future needs


  • Proven track record of contributing to growth through shaping favorable payment pathways and securing reimbursement status for health care products

  • Established relationships with public and private payers

  • Thorough understanding of market access considerations for innovative, implantable technologies

  • Demonstrated capability and experience collaborating with teams in market access disciplines and ability to personally engage in difficult executional challenges to help remove roadblocks and deliver results

  • Analytical, problem solving, persuasive ability to develop and implement strategic plans

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that have been leveraged with external customers, internal stakeholders and senior leadership

  • BA/BS and 10 years of general business management experience in the health care industry

  • 3-5 years of market access related experience required, preferably with global responsibility
