POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE : Packaging Engineer
SCOPE:
Provides engineering skills and activities in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial on Packaging Process & Operations. Project management activities surrounding capital projects or internal upgrades. Mechanical (electromechanical) design/re-design of custom production equipment used in the packaging area.
Oversee the construction, start-up, and commissioning of engineered production machinery, new product startups, quality improvements, cost reduction and continuous improvement project implementation. Provides specific engineering work related to field of expertise (packaging) with broad overlap between engineering disciplines expected. Coordinate all required activities (quality, production, facilities, purchasing, validation etc.) to bring projects to fruition. Responsible for leading project teams, capacity calculations, planning, along with support in budgets and financial justifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Impact/Accountability – This position directly impacts the cost of manufactured product, and fiscal impact based on actual vs. promised delivery dates. Accountable for performing appropriate level of engineering and technical related activities around packaging improvements and new/change product developments.
Sphere of Influence (liaison) – Other plant engineering staff, R&D engineering outside of plant, machine vendors, platform functions, in-house technicians, and operators.
Degree of Accountability (discretion/supervision) – Accountable for project completion according to schedule and within budget and capable of meeting cost impact estimated for project justification. Generally does not supervise other engineers but may supervise non-exempt technical resources.
Financial Impact – Medium to high impact for end product and production costs and equipment efficiencies. Capital projects generally ranging from $10K to $250K. Poor performance could result in potential product recalls.
Decision Making – Key decisions reviewed by Sr. engineering. All key critical decisions subject to review by Engineering Manager, and or Plant Leadership. Invariably makes daily decisions impacting capital and MRO purchases.
Ensure compliance with all applicable Regulations and Standards as defined in BD Quality and Environmental Manual and enterprise I.T. systems.
EDUCATION:
B.S. Engineering, packaging certification, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Technical Writing, Presentation Skills, Project Management Skills, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Validation, Risk Management Skills, Knowledge of Materials Processing, Knowledge of Machine Shop Practices, Materials, Safety and Ergonomics, and Cost Estimating.
EXPERIENCE:
General Mechanical/electrical and Manufacturing Engineering expertise related to manual and semiautomatic assembly and packaging equipment for low to medium volume production of Medical Devices
Skills:
Good communication
Bilingual
Training in SAP, C2C, Lean, Validation, Project Management, Solidworks
Knowledge production lines, semi-automatic equipment, automated equipment, vision systems
Common sense in determining priorities
Process development through DOE.
Electrical, pneumatic diagrams reading.
Maintenance task implementations program.
Planning and leading projects.
Organized in the tasks assigned
