We are recruiting an Health and Safety Engineer for ensuring that BD Plymouth complies with relevant Health, Safety and environmental legislation as it effects the business, whilst promoting a positive H&S culture. HSE will be forming relationships with different business teams and faculties with the primary objective of ensuring that associates work within a safe working environment.
As H&S Engineer , you will:
Assist all levels of management in implementing and maintaining the standards required of the Health & Safety at work act, all other codes of practice and relevant standards.
Carry out risk assessments on assembly equipment new and old ensuring that the safety and wellbeing of associates is not compromised, considering how risks could be reduced.
Complete COSHH Risk assessments, analyse Near Miss data, incident rates and identify areas of concern through software.
Conduct internal EHS audits in conjunction with departmental representatives and tracking any remedial work to completion.
Writing and maintaining safety procedures with regards to manufacturing equipment, chemical handling, workplace transport, manual handling and contractor management.
Assist with accident, incident and near miss investigations, offering advice and best practise solutions where appropriate. Report unsafe occurrences and incidents to the HSE, EA, BDX and other notifiable bodies as and when required.
Assist with the concept, build, installation and validation of new machinery ensuring that new processes and equipment are introduced into the production environment with hazards identified and mitigated, ensuring the continued safety of associates.
As part of the BD Plymouth EHS Team, coordinate and maintain the Environmental Management system in accordance with ISO14001 and applicable laws.
Planning practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial of promoting safe work practices and identify the need for and carry out H&S training with all associates.
The successful candidate will ideally be educated to degree level (BSc or BEng) in a technical or engineering field, have a NEBOSH, IOSH or NVQ H&S qualification or equivalent experience. We are looking for strong communicator, be able to manage without authority and build effective relationships across the business. Experience in delivering presentations to Senior Leadership Teams and handling of external contractors is an advantage. IT literate and be able to pick up new software is essential. You will be adept at influencing people and also at providing clear objectives, direction and mentorship. High level appreciation for manufacturing machinery is essential.
