Program Objective/Scope
The BD Research & Development Summer Internship Program provides the student with an opportunity to partner with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who provide informal mentoring and coaching. Students will have the opportunity to be exposed to our process of designing and developing technologies and products related to medical and/or interventional devices, in vitro diagnostics, and life science research for different global markets. Selected students may work with cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams and may have multiple internal partners and customers.
Each intern will have an individual project and the opportunity to develop technical engineering and scientific expertise. Through our summer internship, intern students develop an extensive professional network, learn how to work in a scientific and engineering environment, build hands-on laboratory skills, and deliver presentations showcasing their work. The summer internship program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to a fortune 500 biotechnology and medical device company and specifically, BD’s culture.
We are recruiting for a highly driven engineering/science students with a passion for technology and product development. The candidate is responsible for all relocation, housing, and transportation costs.
Life Sciences
We are seeking a Summer Intern to join our Life Science Innovation R&D team working on expanding the features of the multi-omic BD single cell Rhapsody platform to enable evolving research, translational, and clinical applications.
The ideal candidatewill have a strong background in molecular biology and genomic techniques, such as qPCR, DNA and RNA sample preparation, and library prep for NGS. Working experience in single cell transcriptomic analysis is preferred and knowledge in antibody-oligo space is a plus. The candidate may also conduct cell culture, cell isolation from blood, and develop protocols for detection of intracellular proteins using imaging and flow cytometry. The candidate will be responsible for designing and executing experiments, maintaining technical data, performing data analysis and interpretation, and generating summary reports. Working collaboratively with other team members of various backgrounds, the successful candidate is expected to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to proactively identify and resolve technical problems using innovative and practical approaches in order to complete aggressive project goals.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
The candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States without limitations and require no sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)
PhD students pursuing a degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Systems Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
Proficiency in Microsoft suite of software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Ability to work 40 hours per week for duration of the 10 to 12-week summer internship period
PREFERRED:
GPA minimum of 3.0

MS/PhD Degree: All levels are encouraged to apply.
