Scientist, with Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Sciences or related training, to carry out experimental work in support of technology and product development R&D projects at BD Technologies and Innovation.
Position Summary (Purpose and Fundamental Goals of the Position):
Incumbent will carry out experimental studies relating to drug/device combination technology and product development within the Devices Innovation R&D team at BD Technologies and Innovation (BDTI) in alignment with BD Interventional and Medical segments. He/she works with project team members to plan and execute technical assessment work in development of drug coating/elution and controlled drug delivery technologies/products. Responsible for execution of technical development and/or product development work, under the guidance of senior scientists and managers. Incumbent drives technical development efforts to completion, analyses data and reports results out to team members and R&D management.
Incumbent will recommend prioritization of technical work on projects and create an efficient workflow. Incumbent will follow-up with managers and communicate status of any technical issues, schedule changes and will develop contingency plans to avoid missing project milestones. Will maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of current research in the field. He or she may prepare justifications for new lab equipment, coordinate or assist with procurement, develop and support the validation of new or existing test methods and manage execution of internal and external studies. Prepares and reviews SOP’s and other documentation. Creates R&D reports and other documentation as required to execute studies in the laboratory.

Incumbent will contribute to R&D programs involving early through late stage innovation efforts being conducted by BDTI with BD Medical segment.
Organizes work schedule according to project needs. Provides domain expertise in drug characterization and development to project team.
Collaborates closely with project team members and may interact with functions such as marketing, manufacturing, and quality, in order to accomplish project objectives.
Ability to manage diverse technical tasks in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
Educational Qualifications & Previous Experience (No. of years as well as type of previous experience needed e.g. exposure to high growth markets, managed a large team etc)
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in pharmaceutics or chemistry.
Expertise in chemistry, drug development and drug characterization.
Knowledge of drug coating and/or drug delivery and combination products.
Working knowledge of drug delivery principles, ADME, PK/PD and drug elution studies.
Working knowledge of Design of Experiments, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical product development.
Desired / Additional Skills & Knowledge (Not essential to the job but will be an advantage to possess)
Experience with analytical tools used in drug development and characterization (HPLC/UPLC, FTIR, Raman, UV-VIS etc.).
1 to 3 years of industry experience in pharmaceutical R&D or drug/device combination products.
Ability to travel up to 25%
Experience in drug dry-down processes.
Experience in carbohydrate chemistry and/or biomaterials.
In-depth knowledge of chemistry, controlled release and drug elution processes.
Shows ability to apply knowledge of scientific principles to design experiments and analyze data providing input to combination product development.
Provides domain expertise in drug delivery and development. Shows initiative and strong time management skills.
