Job Description Summary

The North America Total Rewards team at BD works collaboratively across a global team of Total Reward and HR professionals, designing programs intended to enable outstanding business results through a performance-based culture. We listen to our internal stakeholders and collect their feedback to continually improve and enhance our programs through a two-way dialogue. Combining internal data, stakeholder feedback and external competitive data, we make large-scale decisions that impact BD associates and the business in a meaningful way.

Job Description

This role will significantly contribute to the design, improvement and execution of BD’s global Total Rewards processes and systems. Building relationships is critical; this role will work with the Global Total Rewards team, Regional Total Rewards team, the Associate Service Center, HR Business Partner network and HR Solutions to enable the optimization and successful implementation of global policies and plans. The person in this role is an analytical professional with attention to detail and a deep interest in understanding and communicating data to stakeholders and partners, as well as developing the models that support recommended approaches. Being comfortable managing several projects at once and helping key decision makers to make sound decisions by analyzing data and working on critical issues is crucial. This position will primarily oversee benefits, LOA, education assistance and social investing programs and will support in other areas of the scope of Total Rewards programs under the ASC/GBS.

Key Activities Include

  • Analyze large data sets to distill insights and convey findings.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for Total Rewards/sub-Total Rewards programs, policies and processes.

  • Identify and recommend methods to update, simplify and enhance processes, procedures and technologies.

  • Provide staff with technical support and guidance on core ASC Total Rewards HR processes (respond to and resolve increasingly complex issues)

  • Act in a consultative and project management role to CoE to define and implement program delivery. Identify process and systems implications of, and solutions to, new or modified programs and policies.

  • Primary interface to CoE and Non-HR functional departments to appropriately escalate inquiries/concerns.

  • Monitor and conduct periodic reviews of CIC performance metrics and cases with CoEs to show ongoing trends.

  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives to ensure services are effectively delivered.

  • Launch case management with ownership from intake to transition, escalation, or closure.

  • Ensure on the job training occurs where appropriate.

  • Gather and analyze appropriate metrics, data and reports around compliance, performance, and data analytics (peer-level) to help initiate improvements.

  • Provide input into appropriate metrics and reports around compliance, performance, and data analytics.

  • Monitor case management and timely closure of tickets with Supervisors/Team Leads to ensure quality customer service.

  • Responsible for the oversight of 3rd party implementation of the Annual Enrollment benefits

  • Oversee and guide 3rd party coordination of benefits related activities including those with external benefits vendors - evaluation and management of the vendor’s performance, supports vendor implementations, coordination of premium payments, collection of audit data, compliance requirements, vendor mapping, data issues and verification, solicit beneficiary forms, coordinate address searches, and court orders.

  • Support Total Rewards CoE with project work related to mergers, acquisitions and divestiture activity.

  • Coordination of BD Healthy Lives program activities. Supports the tuition reimbursement process.

  • Provide support for the annual compensation cycle. Identify, and collaborate with HR Solutions and the ASC to define requirements, improvements, and test system for the upcoming cycle. Leverage Workday and compensation knowledge to provide oversight to the data verification process prior to the cycle. Collaborate with HR Solutions to update manager and HR training materials on both the system and the process.

  • Assists in execution of change plans and communications prior to and throughout the cycle. Support the infrastructure updates to ensure HR Business Partners and regions are supported during the cycle. Collaborate with Genpact ASC to ensure seamless integration with local payrolls.

  • Serve as a functional regional compensation subject-matter expert on Workday.

  • Work on core compensation projects, such as mergers and acquisitions, job architecture design, compensation policies, recognition programs, deliver training on compensation programs/policies and similar compensation projects.

  • Will assist in ensuring salary ranges, job structures and other critical compensation architecture in Workday reflects the most recent plan designs and processes. Partner with HR Solutions to load salary ranges into Workday and to set up the logic to link associates to the accurate range. Introduce guidelines for merit and off-cycle increases based on position in range. Provide input and deliver global training materials.

  • Hands on experience translating business requirements into functional solutions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the administration of rewards plans and programs.

  • Global multinational company and Workday experience desirable

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • GRP, CBP or CCP desirable

  • 5+ years of progressive rewards plans experience, including benefits, leaves of absence, and introductory work in compensation or other areas of Total Rewards experience desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of benefits administration and compliance. Knowledge of IRS, ERISA, and HIPAA, ACA, and DOL regulations

  • Ability to pay close attention to details and use time effectively.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to independently compose routine written communications.

  • Proficient in Total Rewards end to end HR processes.

  • Workday experience is strongly desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to use that information to represent the service center to the COE using influence and persuasion to ensure process considerations are accounted for in new or modified programs and policies.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical ability.

  • Expert proficiency in English, with at least one other language preferred


  • HR Generalist experience a plus

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP)

  • Professional of Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) Certification

  • Six Sigma or Lean Management Certification
