BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Associate Director, BioPharma Alliance in San Diego, California
Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, BioPharma Alliance will report to the Global Director of Biomarkers and CDx. He / She will be responsible for multiple strategic alliances that may include programs ranging from early stage research to late stage development or commercialized products. The successful candidate will be able to lead without direct authority to problem-solve collaboration and program issues with cross-functional teams. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to drive issues to resolution are required. Related business development or scientific/medical affairs experience is a significant plus.
Ensuring all BD’s business objectives related to assigned alliances are achieved
Serve as an alliance point of contact, working closely with internal team members, and alliance counterparts to manage and advance joint goals and deliverables, contract issues, and overall health of the collaboration
Partner closely with internal cross-functional team members to ensure alignment with product goals, alliance operating principles and contractual terms and goals of the collaboration
Ensuring roles, responsibilities, and obligations are understood and maintained throughout the duration of each alliance
Engaging with KOLs and thought leaders for collaborations and manuscript development
Partnering with internal stakeholders and/or senior management to effectively resolve alliance issues
Potentially expanding current alliance to new programs, therapeutic areas, or renegotiating current terms

Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the organization’s ability to meet its strategic, financial, and technical goals
In collaboration with team, assist with the development of the business case and operating plan for new ventures, products and services
Influence others: Intuitively and quickly assess people and situations and act accordingly. Demonstrate strong persuasion and timing skills.
Conduct and encourage frequent formal and informal communication within the group to ensure full engagement and efficient operation.
Demonstrate and promote leadership courage by doing what is right.
Bachelor’s Degree Required (BA/BS in Life Sciences or equivalent). An advanced degree in life sciences (MS/PhD) preferred.
Minimum 10 years business experience, preferrably in medical device, diagnostics or biopharma industry, including 3+ years of experience in a similar business development or alliance management position required.
Knowledge and deep understanding of biopharma and CRO product development
Project management experience a plus
Experience in preparing and reviewing manuscripts preferred
Flow Cytometry experience preferred as well as other technologies that may be adjacent or used for similar purposes
A demonstrated ability to proactively build consensus across key stakeholders, navigate complexity and spanning boundaries
Understands and navigates complexities associated with legal, compliance, and contracting language
Actively engages in industry associations and meetings to acquire knowledge and identify relevant business opportunities
Effective analytical, problem solving, organization, and prioritization skills
Must possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
Ability to travel up to 30% (domestic and international)
