Job Description Summary

Provide customer support service on the connectivity of diagnostic instrumentation to hospital networks for BD Diagnostic Systems (BDDS). Service includes remote/telephone technical support, on-site visits, if necessary, as well as training of other service personnel and repairs performed on instrumentation. Works as a liaison with the Lab Manager, Lab Supervisor, and Lab Techs to configure and test the interface as well as provide answers to any questions they may have that are LIS/IT/BD Middleware related. Serves as a point of contact for lab or hospital LIS Administrators, Networking Team, IT Security Team, and Desktop Support Team to answer all IT/LIS related questions and provide support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must have the ability to multi-task and be adaptable to changing business environment(s).

  • Proficient PC skills (Microsoft Office package).

  • Must have effective communication and customer service skills including technical writing and the ability to manage complex technical conversations via telephone.

  • Effective planning and organizational skills

  • Provide clients with the detailed specifications for a successful LIS/BD Middleware implementation which includes configuration information.

  • Work with customers to verify LIS codes are configured, tested, and imported correctly for the instrument interface and to ensure the demographics and results are posting correctly.

  • Provide technical assistance through telephone, email, and remote support including giving guidance to customers on functionality of LIS vendor software required for proper configuration of BD Middleware interfaces.

  • Collaborate with Applications Specialists to review customer interfacing requirements to ensure complete and satisfactory implementation, setup and configuration of required interface.

  • Research and answer LIS questions as needed.

  • Provide advanced Level II and III support for Field Service Engineers and the Technical Support Center to ensure efficient BD Software solutions to LIS interface implementations.

  • Performs remote installation and configuration of various software solutions, including testing and troubleshooting, for interfacing BD systems and associated instruments to the Laboratory Information System.

  • Troubleshoot hardware issues from COM port problems to instruments not communicating with BD software solutions.

  • 5-10% limited travel to troubleshoot escalated issues, when necessary.

  • Completes population of electronic databases relative to LIS interface portion of implementation process.

  • Completes, reviews and updates documentation of BD Middleware configuration for LIS interface for individual customer sites.

  • Develops and tests new interfaces and works to improve vendor relations with LIS companies.

  • Document all service related activity in ServiceMax

Knowledge and Skills

  • Typically requires 3-4 years of service experience in the troubleshooting and repair of networking systems

  • Must have the ability to multi-task and be adaptable to changing business environment(s).

  • Proficient PC skills (Microsoft Office package)

  • Must have effective communication and customer service skills

  • Working knowledge and experience of networking set up and troubleshooting

  • Experience with PC assembly, upgrades and repairs are highly desirable

  • Familiarization and experience with basic DOS commands is highly desirable

  • Some experience with technologies such as XML, REST API, and SQL Server highly desirable

  • PC-based application software knowledge highly preferred

  • Experience with medical devices and equipment, PC/software/LIS/networking/database management knowledge is highly desired

  • Knowledge of IT related systems architecture as it relates to instrument and LIS implementations

  • Experience working with HL7/ASTM interfaces.

  • Experience with Data Innovations Instrument Manager highly desirable

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Excellent technical and problem solving skills.

  • Typically requires a minimum 2 years’ experience in a customer facing environment.

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience

Location = Remote. The ideal candidate will reside within the Pacific Time Zone or will be willing to work Pacific Time Zone hours.
