Responsible for scoping, leading, and managing cross functional teams in the execution of highly visible and strategic programs / projects that have a direct impact on the Manufacturing Operations strategy. Must work within the constraints of budget, schedule and scope while managing risk and ensuring adherence to established processes and methodologies. This position is also accountable for the development of the Sustaining Engineering and Manufacturing Plant portfolio of projects in support of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost goals of the manufacturing facility.
Manufacturing Strategy Implementation
Overall accountability for BD inter-plant transfer of assigned product lines or the transfer of purchased products into the BD manufacturing environment.
Utilize project management tools such as work breakdown structures, project plans, risk registers, change logs and communication strategies to plan and execute highly complex projects
Directly lead, facilitate, coordinate, and track day-to-day activities required to ensure product transfers into and out of the manufacturing plant are completed on time, successfully, and in a manner consistent with organizational goals, departmental policies, established processes, and/or the standard terms and conditions of the contract
Demonstrate a proactive approach to identify risks to project success, develop effective action plans for resolution, and appropriately manage / escalate project issues or risks
Accurately forecast current and future budget needs for each assigned project, regularly reviewing forecasts for new risk or necessary updates, and proactively communicate budget risk and changes
Create and use project plans for assigned projects, which include clear milestones and assignment of project task responsibilities
Demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with project teams and leadership
Demonstrate ability of leading project teams and act as an effective team leader for all matrixed staff
Responsible for overseeing and/or leading the Sustaining governance framework that results in the project roadmap in support of the manufacturing/plant goals defined by leadership
Accountable for defining project roadmaps that are prioritized to the product/platform strategy and determining labor, expense, and capital requirements
Optimizing the portfolio to reduce the cost of project execution
Providing input into the annual budgeting process to support project roadmaps
Drives continuous improvement to planning accuracy through use of metrics
Participates and/or leads portfolio governance meetings with a cross functional management team to ensure projects maintain functional alignment and roadblocks are addressed.
Manages project or program scope, schedule, and costs either directly or through Project Managers and Engineers
Adapts methodologies to develop / customize project plans based on given circumstances, constraints, etc. and negotiates with other departments as needed
Manages (directly or via Project Managers) multiple complex programs and identifies and monitors key measures to ensure program success
Drives timely, complete, fact-based issue resolution in a collaborative manner
Champions and leads change initiatives; identifies the best approach for implementing processes.
Performs post-project analysis and creates recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
Identify and correct process gaps within project identification, development, and execution.
Develop project and portfolio health dashboards and reports that are used to drive actionable activities
Professional Skills & Key Competencies
Demonstrates knowledge of industry-recognized project management methodologies
Soft skills necessary to be an effective program/project manager
Is a role model for use and understanding of project governance expectations (scope management, tollgate, and risk / change management processes)?
Ability to remove team roadblocks through creative problem solving, negotiation, or conflict management skills. Rarely calls upon others to help solve organizational roadblocks.
Maintaining multi-project / program schedule and timeline
Compliant with forecasting and backlog management processes
Provides coaching, mentoring, and training for project team and peers
Able to effectively work across multiple departments (e.g., R&D, Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory)
Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
Preferred: Master’s in business or Engineering discipline
Preferred: Project Management certification from accredited institution
Required: Minimum 15 years combined experience in Manufacturing, Engineering, and Program Management
Demonstrated experience managing product transfers
Strong project management and leadership experience
Product development process knowledge
Product manufacturing experience in a regulated environment; FDA preferred
Up to 25%
US based position but will require working in BD’s Tijuana, MX facility three times per week or more depending on project needs
