Job Description Summary
BD Biosciences is a leader in dye development and multicolor flow cytometry.
We are seeking an outstanding Senior Scientist to join our highly motivated research and development team to continue this exciting work. This individual will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of stability testing for all research reagents to drive determination of shelf life for our products. A key aspect of this role is consistent interpretation of shelf-life data and presentation of recommendations to multiple teams across R&D. Once on board, this associate will also look for opportunities to implement automated data handling and database solutions to evolve the current stability processes. An additional focus for this role will be lab-based, hands-on testing to support dye development and product development using final dye candidates. A successful candidate will be detail oriented, skilled at handling large sets of data, proficient in identifying opportunities for process improvements, and will be accountable for presenting data and data trends to management.
Job Responsibilities include:
Organization and scheduling of reagent samples for testing.
Leading and driving to completion of milestones associated with specific projects, where failure to achieve results may cause delays in program schedules.
Presenting results and next steps to leadership.
Designing and performing single and multi-color flow cytometry experiments.
Being a driver for best practices in flow cytometry.
Serving as a resource to junior level scientists to guide experimental design and analysis.
Having a strong sense of customer requirements.
Seeking opportunities for process improvements.
Intellectually contributing to the development of assay protocols and SOPs.
Promoting a safe work environment. Offer recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participate in addressing corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notify supervisor of all observed unsafe work practices.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Immunology (or a related life science discipline) with at least 6 years' of relevant experience.
Master's Degree or Ph.D is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 4 years' experience operating a flow cytometer.
Experience with simple database design using MySQL or SQL preferred.
Familiarity with use of robotic liquid handlers for automated sample preparation (Hamilton, Agilent, Tecan) is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Proficiency with handling, modifying, and tracking large datasets, ability to automate and streamline data management is preferred.
Requires experience designing, performing, and analyzing flow cytometry experiments, preferably on BD flow cytometers.
Strong understanding of flow cytometry principles and instrumentation.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
History of demonstrating strong analytical problem solving skills, scientific rigor and attention to detail in experimental design and execution.
A proven proactive self-starter with a strong work ethic.
Effective working on individual projects or as part of a larger team
Demonstrated organizational, time management, and planning skills to efficiently prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Solid understanding of immunology.
