Job Overview:

The Staff Engineer position is a technical leadership position, responsible for life cycle management, value engineering and commercializing disposable infusion products. This individual will be responsible for leading a group of R&D engineers and partnering with cross-functional teams to understand use cases and user needs, translating into product requirements, developing robust design solutions, leading design verification and validation testing, and facilitating design transfer to manufacturing and operations. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills. The individual will play a central role in managing resource allocation across projects and guide project teams in devising technical strategy, proactively managing technical risks, managing error budgets, drive feasibility testing, lead reliability and robustness testing, achieving compliance to regulations, managing critical parameters, creating product cost models, and driving timely completion of milestones. The individual is also expected to play an active role in engineering functional excellence initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications and Competencies:

  • BS – Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or similar field with emphasis on mechanical design and development

  • Minimum of 7 years of post-educational product design and development experience

  • Proficient in SolidWorks

  • Proficient in design controls, and risk management - FDA QSR 21 CFR 820, ISO 13845, ISO 14971, IEC 60601, and collateral standards

  • Expertise in requirements engineering, hazards analysis, FMEA/FTA, verification, and validation

  • Strong engineering fundamentals, analytical ability, and demonstrated problem-solving skills

  • Experienced in Design of Experiments and statistical methods of analysis

  • Proficient in leading cross-functional teams (R&D, marketing, sales, clinical, regulatory, operations etc.) toward effective collaboration and coordination.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and to mentor engineers and technicians

  • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scopes at once

Desired Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD)

  • Prior experience in medical device industry

  • Prior experience in injection molding, plastic extrusion, DFM for high volume manufacturing

  • Hands-on experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Critical Parameter Management tools

  • Experience in modeling, simulations, and sensitivity analyses

  • SAP, CAD PLM
