Reporting to the VP, PMO for BD Biosciences, the Associate Director, PMO Programs is responsible for leading a team focused on ensuring the timely development and successful implementation of effective practices in cross functional team leadership, delivery on key compliance and quality programs and developing new and emerging talent in program management. This is a critical role in the BD Biosciences PMO, with high visibility, and a direct impact on the successful completion of strategically meaningful programs designed to transform. We are seeking an innovative individual with a proven track record in the execution of sophisticated cross functional programs, adoption of best practices and visual methods, and the development of project management talent.
Provide expertise in the identification, development and deployment of tools and techniques for program management and multi-disciplined team management. Develop a playbook with examples of effective methodology and a guide on the selection, as well as implementation of the most effective techniques to maximize individual team efficiency whilst achieving program targets for scope, timeline, resources, and quality.
Drive a continuous improvement culture across BD Biosciences programs through the design and implementation of group training, team coaching sessions and individual mentorship. Define and measure goals, for improved processes and team dynamics, including Key Performance Indicators and monthly metrics. Supervise and report overall program progress against intermediate achievements and end of year targets.
Drive standardization of tools, techniques and approaches to cross-functional team leadership to enable rapid deployment and assimilation of Associates into teams and programs ensuring rapid individual and team ramp-up and contribution to the program milestones and objectives.
Define and employ a process to allow the training and roll out of the Global Product Delivery System (GPDS) across all elements of the product development portfolio within division. Ensure the correct balance of efficiency, effectiveness and a “fit-for-purpose” approach to the components of GPDS is achieved matching with the respective Quality Assurance and Regulatory Standards and the needs of each platform and product development activities.
Establish and deploy resource assignment and tracking mechanisms across R&D and other key functions to enable capacity analysis and utilization thereby ensuring maximum resource deployment, accurate and timely financial reporting against program budgets and overall R&D budget management. Contribute to portfolio management process across a diverse and complex R&D portfolio with an emphasis on resource management, budget tracking and financial reporting.
Talent Acquisition and Development
Recruit, mentor and coach highly skilled and forward-thinking Associates to drive evaluation and adoption of continuous improvement, implementation of complicated compliance programs and resource allocation and portfolio management processes.
Develop and deliver a structured curriculum of education and coaching to be delivered to the junior members of the PMO covering skills, capabilities and experiences that will enable a successful transition to a future role as a CTL for programs undertaken within BD Biosciences.
Create and implement a structured stretch assignment program for non-PMO based BDB Associates in leadership development opportunities as either full or part time CTLs for a period of up to 24 months. Mentor, coach and develop these individuals so they are highly proficient in the skills and techniques of cross functional leadership at the end of their secondment /assignment to the PMO.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Lead a team of CTLs to deliver on key goals across a range of programs focused upon quality and compliance improvements so that continuity of supply and customer experience are maximized.
As the need arises, occasionally apply his/her depth of experience in complicated and intricate project management by leading high impact critical initiatives. These assignments may range from acting as core team leader for new product development programs, technology development projects or other critical initiatives such as Key Business Objectives or other assignments from PMO Leadership, R&D Leadership or the Global BDB LT.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree is required; MBA or Advanced business or management degree highly beneficial
PMP certification preferred.
Capability and experience in six sigma or equivalent business improvement processes
Greater than 10 years overall experience, with a minimum of 6-10 years working in a program/project management capacity leading cross-functional teams.
Experience in medical device or life science industries is preferred including experience in FDA or other regulated environments preferred. Knowledge of the medical device & life sciences industries beneficial integrating science and technology into business processes
Experience in building robust functional teams including org design, recruitment, mentorship & development as well as career planning.
A highly experienced project / program leader with proven success in the development and execution of complex project plans, including new product and technology development, within sophisticated global environments across many cultures and geographies.
Exceptional analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills coupled to strong business and financial acumen.
Highly effective interpersonal skills on a cross-cultural level with excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills, including engagement with Executive level management
Clearly proven leadership skills delivering exceptional results.
Job Location: San Jose or San Diego. If San Diego willingness to travel to San Jose regularly.
