Job Description Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is expected to lead change, contribute new ideas, manage projects and find innovative methods to accomplish goals. Work on complex mechanical/electrical/electronic problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Act independently and exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies. May supervise the activities of others. Determine methods and procedures on new assignments. The ME is expected to have the ability to get things done through people that do not report to them and also need to have the ability to work through adverse situations while building and maintaining good personal relationships.

Lead cross functional project teams. Improve manufacturing operational efficiency, optimize product design, qualify replacement components, improve product quality, customer satisfaction, and reduce manufacturing costs.
Must be an adept and experienced problem solver who is able to determine root cause of difficult technical issues.
Must be able to implement effective solutions in a timely manner - Issues are typically multi-disciplinary in nature: mechanical, optical, electrical, and fluidics.
Conduct continuous improvement processes to achieve optimal efficiency for manufacturing operations.
Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing. Review engineering designs and conduct engineering change orders documentation for completeness, clarity and manufacturability.
Evaluate and qualify new suppliers. Interface with Product Development to define and implement manufacturability criteria, develop procedures/processes for assembly, PCBA's, systems and sub-systems test procedures including fixtures, during the development process. Ensure designs, documents, and procedures have been validated in manufacturing prior to production release.
Assess feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment.
Independently perform work with general instructions to the expected objectives; receive technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
Perform and document field failure investigations, identify root causes, and participate in corrective and preventive action efforts.
Keep abreast of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and complies with those requirements. Participate as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work. Bring regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.
Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participate in Environmental, Health and Safety programs. Address corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notify a supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
Typically requires a BS degree: ME, EE, IE, Physics or equivalents.
3-6 years experience in a high tech manufacturing environment.
Must be proficient in the use of personal computers: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Visio, Windows or MAC OS.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must have good interpersonal skills: conflict resolution, negotiation, and time management skills.
Proficient in reading and understanding of electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
Must have extensive experience in writing and reviewing Engineering Change Orders.
Must have strong project management experience; lead continuous improvement efforts with cross functional teams.
Experience in developing manufacturing processes, writing procedures, and training assembly personnel.
Possess the ability to assess and resolve multiple high visibility problems in a timely manner.
Able to successfully interact with executive management.
Able to function effectively and efficiently with minimal direction and capable of recognizing problems and address them without waiting to be instructed to do so.
Familiar with ISO 9001 and 13485 standards.
Willingness to travel when required.
Requires a BS degree: ME, EE, IE, IT or equivalent education and experience.
Proficiency with some of the following applications: Pro-E, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Project, MS Access, SAP ERP, Visio.
Experience resolving technical issues involving lasers and optical components
Broad experience supporting many of the following commodities or supplier types: lasers, optical components, fluidics systems, machined parts, sheet metal, cables, PCA’s, plastics, power systems, product packaging, turnkey subcontractors, hardware, labeling.
Strong cGMP familiarity with 21 CFR part 820, medical industry experience.
Experience implementing Demand Flow Technology (DFT) processes.
Experience implementing LEAN manufacturing processes.
6 Sigma green or black belt.
