Job Description SummaryManager, Manufacturing Engineering in the sustainment of products across their lifecycles, and design transfer and commercialization of engineering solutions into Production # Job Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead a team of outstanding Manufacturing Project Engineers while managing a sustaining engineering portfolio of projects around flow cytometry instruments, the scope of which includes component and technology changes and qualification; design transfer into the Operations, supply chain and Service teams; engineering change order ownership; SAP/ERP data readiness; product and process quality control. The individual will have the opportunity to hire, develop and manage a team in the medical device manufacturing industry, and grow current products while preparing for the next generation of BD flow cytometers. + Leads and grows a manufacturing engineering team with attention to BD’s management principles including Servant Leadership and Growth Mindset. + Ensures relevant solutions and proper methodologies are integrated into engineering work around sustaining of products, new product development, documentation, product and process validation, and transfers into Production. + Manages end-of-life component information intake, impact analysis, last-time buy or gap purchases, recommendation for replacement projects, and sometimes leads the qualification of new components and materials to completion. Impact analysis requires deep engagement into Bill of Materials, assembly and test procedures, material inventory tracking, BD and external technology lifecycle trends, and project prioritization across engineering, production and supplier teams. + Directs activities toward ensuring production readiness and production control as part of implementing new methodologies and technology. + Ensures collaboration with BD functions towards commercialization readiness around key deliverables such as product master data, costing, production and supplier capacity, global regulatory labeling and packaging, training, service readiness and material disposition (transition, scrap, purge). + Occasionally uses engineering knowledge to contribute in the identification and development of technical solutions. + Develops and monitors budgets for capital expenditures, operating supplies, and adequate staffing. + Ensures project schedules support business priorities, especially avoiding line-downs. + Communicates project status, progress, problems, and procedures. + Supports continuous improvement in product/process quality and product availability, cost reduction, and increased production capability. + Typically directs the work in sustaining engineering, but is able to collaborate with other business functions on new product development and introduction into Production. + Keeps abreast of the US and non-US regulations affecting own area of supervision/management and complies with those regulations. Initiates changes to BD practices and procedures to support compliance requirements. Communicates the need for compliance to team members. + Ensures Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) training through facilitating the development and implementation of safety awareness programs for the team. Implements scheduled departmental safety inspections and ensures corrective action for identified hazards. Ensures EH&S policies and procedures are followed through education and training. QUALIFICATIONS + B.S. degree in an Engineering or related scientific discipline + Prefer 5 years manufacturing, operations, development, product transfer management experience in diagnostic instrument manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA or further education in graduate studies is desirable. + Background and experience preferred in as many of the following disciplines as possible: Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, optics, fluidics, firmware, systems engineering, cytometry. + SAP experience preferred in ERP applications for product lifecycle and engineering change management, product documentation system, quality systems, bills of materials, routings and production floor control. + Effective analytical, technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. + Effective interpersonal and leadership skills. + Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures. + Effective in collaborating and managing within a matrix-managed organization, utilizing project management skills. + Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions while coordinating multiple projects, programs, variables, risks and priorities. + Effective communications up/down and across the organization. + Operating knowledge of safety, GMP, FDA, ISO and instrument EMC&Safety regulations. “Becton, Dickinson and Company is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
