Normally receives no instructions on routine work, general instructions on new assignments. Expert at multitasking and is a quick, resourceful problem-solver. Provide guidance and training to lower level planner/ schedulers.

Responsible for executing Production Schedule (MPS) through timely and accurate material planning, production scheduling, coordination, and effective utilization of available resources:

  • Ensures planning of material requirements to support MPS. Plans, schedules, SAP, and monitors movement of materials through production cycle. Determines material requirements from engineering and production schedules. Coordinates efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production and engineering. Maintains accuracy of assigned data fields in material planning system. Initiates action plans to prevent occurrence of problems which may delay timely planning, and follows up on their completion. Proposes modification to planning guidelines as needed to provide for minimum inventory investment consistent with production objectives and constraints imposed by the manufacturing process.

  • Develops detailed, achievable production schedules, and measures and reports performance to schedule. Plans, schedules, and coordinates products through complete production cycle. Works from engineering plans and production specifications to establish production schedules, labor loading and capacity requirements. Coordinates production plans to ensure materials are provided according to schedules. Maintains accuracy of shop floor control system from initial input of work order data through ongoing maintenance, to completion and closure.

  • Works with master scheduler or sales/marketing to understand forecast demands and needs of marketplace.

  • Ensures timely and accurate implementation of engineering changes which affect production schedule. Interfaces with marketing, sales, production and engineering to reschedule due to proposed design changes, labor and material shortages, backlogs and other potential schedule interruptions. Develops detailed rescheduling plans and ensures timely execution to minimize schedule impact. Takes action to prevent generation of obsolete or excess inventory. Represents materials department at ECO meetings. Ensures implementation plans are complete and approved by all functions involved.

  • Coordinates new product introductions as assigned. Works with purchasing, manufacturing, engineering, and marketing to understand and meet material needs of new product programs. Develops specifications for new contract orders. Takes leadership role in ensuring all assigned actions/milestones are completed on schedule.

  • Provides guidance and training to lower level planner/ schedulers.

  • Keeps abreast of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and complies with those requirements. Participates as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.

  • Promotes a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental Health and Safety programs. Addresses corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

Knowledge of operational logic and use of MRP, inventory control, production scheduling, and capacity planning:

  • Should be equivalent to attainment of APICS certification.

  • Knowledge of integrated Supply Chain systems (i.e., SAP R/3, SCM/APO) a plus.

  • Solid analytical, planning, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of GMP and ISO requirements.

  • Basic math skills

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures.

  • Effective problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to train others.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a BA in business administration, concentrated in the field of Operations and Supply Chain Management or five years’ experience.
