Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) will be expected to lead multiple high impact projects. The ME is expected to lead change, contribute new ideas, and find innovative methods to accomplish goals. Works on complex mechanical and electrical problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Acts independently and exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies. May supervise the activities of others. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. The ME will be expected to have the ability to get things done through people that do not report to them. The ME will also need to have the ability to work through adverse situations while building and maintaining good personal relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross functional project teams to improve labor efficiency, optimize the product Quality, qualify replacement components, and help reduce manufacturing operating costs

  • Must be adept in resolving and determining root cause of technical mechanical, optical, and electrical issues encountered in Production during Assembly and Test. Be capable of implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Capable of balancing and relaying production lines to increase output

  • Provide adequate support of the introduction of new products into manufacturing while supporting the production of existing products

  • Participate in documentation and design reviews of existing and new products for completeness, clarity, and manufacturability

  • Evaluate, qualify new suppliers, and help develop procedures and processes for assembly and test procedures including designing tooling and fixtures when required

  • Conduct Process Validation in Manufacturing prior to official production release.

  • Work independently with general instructions to meet objectives

  • Perform and document field failure investigations, identify root causes, and participate in corrective and preventive action efforts

  • Promote a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. Participates in Environmental, Health and Safety programs - Address corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified and notify supervisor of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.

  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Typically requires a BS degree: ME, EE, IE, Physics or equivalent

  • Prefer at least 6 years of experience in a Manufacturing environment

  • Must have experience with CAD - SolidWorks

  • Must be proficient with MS office (Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Visio)

  • Must be able to understand Engineering Drawings, generate Bills of Materials, develop Standard Operating Procedures, create, review, and release Engineering Change Orders

  • Must have strong project management and Continuous Improvement (CI) skills

  • Must have experience in developing Manufacturing processes, writing assembly, testing procedures, and training Manufacturing personnel

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and good interpersonal skills

  • Must be good in resolving conflict, negotiation, and time management skills

  • Must possess the capability to timely resolve high visibility problems with minimal direction and the ability to interact successfully with the Leadership Team

  • Can recognize problems and address them without being instructed to do so

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and 13485 standards

  • Willingness to travel as required

Desirable Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree

  • Experience resolving technical issues involving lasers and optical components

  • Strong cGMP familiarity 21 CFR part 820, medical industry experience

  • Experience implementing Demand Flow Technology (DFT) processes

  • Experience implementing LEAN manufacturing processes

  • 6 Sigma green or black belt
