As a member of the BD Biosciences San Jose Product Engineering Team, you will be responsible for the design and support of sophisticated instruments for medical diagnostics and life science research, involving technology from every area of science and engineering. Will specialize on the small, precision assemblies and redesign existing assemblies for improved performance and reliability to replace obsolete components.

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer, who will provide high quality and innovative solutions to a wide range of challenging problems and contribute to the completion of specific design projects. The ideal candidate has a natural ability to troubleshoot different parts of the systems and subsystems in order to identify the root cause of the issues. You are a self-starter and want to implement solutions that are efficient and complete to further improve the current instrument portfolio. You have a desire and ability to understand every aspect of the system and subsystems to acquire a deep knowledge of the flow cytometry instrument portfolio.

A Senior Mechanical Engineer’s primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting root cause investigation of product and component failures

  • Performing electro-mechanical testing of components and sub-systems

  • Work on Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), End-of-life (EOL) component selection and cost reduction activities

  • Work with cross-functional team to define, scope and prioritize projects.

  • Test, collect and analyze data, prepare reports and present results to cross functional team

  • Modeling of opto-mechanical and fluidic assemblies over a range of conditions

  • Modeling and budgeting performance across interconnected subsystems

  • Design electro-mechanical and fluidic sub-assemblies using SolidWorks, CREO or other equivalent 3D CAD systems.

  • Prototype and test designs to ensure they are robust and manufacturable.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • Masters(preferred.)

  • 4 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer.

  • Previous experience with biomedical devices is desired.

Assets:

  • Experience in kinematic principles, modern opto-mechanical design, and fabrication

  • At least 3 years experience with fluidics design (micro-fluidics experience preferred) and performance analysis.

  • Experience taking a concept from feasibility prototype to production

  • Characterize solutions for mechanical stability, repeatability, and reliability through structure experiment and test

  • Must have strong lab skills, with ability to perform and document detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
