BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) SORP Project Engineer in San Jose, California
Job Description Summary
This is a key role within the BD Biosciences SORP engineering group. The SORP Manufacturing/Project Engineer will be a product developer who would work with internal partners collaborating on current projects as well as supporting and driving the development of key technologies to create the next-generation of research flow platforms. Key to achieving this will be the ability to support product development within the SORP model, drive through to commercial launch, and subsequent support to the operations organization and field.
Simultaneously support multiple high impact projects.
Lead change, contribute new ideas, and find innovative methods to accomplish goals.
Work on complex mechanical/electrical/electronic problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Support and lead (under direction of senior engineers) cross functional internal/external project teams of various sizes and scale. Major objectives may include: developing new and differentiating features within the SORP product portfolio, improving manufacturing operational efficiency, optimizing product design, improving customer satisfaction, and reducing manufacturing costs.
Must be an adept problem solver who is able to determine root cause of difficult technical issues.
Must be able to implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Issues are typically multi-disciplinary in nature: mechanical, optical, electrical, and fluidics.
Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing. Drives engineering designs and documentation for completeness, clarity and manufacturability for successful design transfer.
Ensure designs, documents, and procedures have been validated in manufacturing prior to production release.
Support introduction of new products to field service support.
Responsible for design transfer for service support, supporting early access customers, performing and documenting field failure investigations, identifying root cause and driving corrective and preventive action efforts.
Education and Experience:
BS Degree in Engineering. Individuals with an advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in product development.
Working understanding of flow cytometer design including optics, fluidics, SW and electronics.
Hands-on experience building breadboards, prototypes and production level instruments.
Experience in product development of systems and subsystems with internal and external partners.
Capable of working collaboratively on complex projects with a diverse group of disciplines/individuals.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication/ presentation skills.
A self-starter with a strong work ethic.
