Job Description Summary
The Sr Manager of Reliability Engineering will lead an energetic and diverse team of engineers and technicians with specialties in Reliability Engineering, Hardware Characterization, and Hardware Prototyping. The team plays a critical role on product development teams from technical development through launch and sustaining in ensuring that products are designed for robustness, reliability, and quality.
The Sr Manager of Reliability Engineering must be passionate about product quality and reliability and have demonstrated experience working collaboratively to influence complex designs throughout the design process. Demonstrated experience successfully implementing new tools for reliability, characterization and prototyping, including simulation and early failure finding test methodologies, is a plus.

This position reports to the Associate Director of Design Assurance Engineering in the R&D function.
Primary duties include the following:
Serves as Reliability expert for complex new/sustaining product development projects as well CAPAs for post-market issues.
Lead the Reliability Engineering team to plan, prepare, setup, and execute characterization and reliability testing for new R&D products.
Lead a cross-functional team focused on building metrics and tools for field data analytics. Provide summary metric dashboards to leadership to provide visibility on in-market instrument quality.
Analyze, communicate and navigate discovery of technical risks on programs related to design robustness and reliability.
Mentor associates and collaborate with core teams to ensure key technical milestones on all product development programs are being met with rigor and quality.
Build & nurture a high performing and engaged team. Prioritize his / her team’s performance & career development. Set an expectation for continuous learning and improvement across the department.
Ensure team resources, equipment and skillsets are aligned with program needs, actively seeking out new methodologies, tools, and skills to deliver rapid results without sacrificing quality.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Master’s degree or certification in Reliability Engineering (CRE) strongly preferred.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in Reliability Engineering, preferably in the medical device industry. Experience implementing a wide range of test methodologies.
Minimum 5-7 years managing a team of Reliability Engineers.
Expert knowledge of reliability engineering fundamentals and analysis including DfR concepts, HALT, and common reliability engineering tools. Advances failure-seeking mindset.
Advanced statistical knowledge. Effective analytical, technical, and problem solving skills. Applies rigorous methodology to complex problems, including reliability modeling and six sigma methodology.
Experience with a variety of hardware automation and measurement tools.
Experience with a variety of hardware prototyping and machining techniques.
Demonstrated ability to influence teams to achieve reliability, robustness and quality goals.
Ability to set a vision and engage own team to reach that vision. Ability to champion and execute customer-centric approaches, ideas, methods, and processes.
Natural collaborator. Leads through building relationships; motivated by collective success.
Experience developing products in a Phase Gate Product Development process. Experience developing test strategies to meet product requirements in a regulated environment.
Experience managing multiple labs with complex equipment and instrumentation, chemical and biohazards.
Experience with early stage technology development.

Experience in the development of complex instrument systems involving hardware, high speed electronics, fluidics, optics, software and reagents, ideally in a healthcare, medical technology or life sciences area.
Experience implementing advanced test and simulation methods within an organization.
Experience contracting with, and managing, third party consultants within and outside the U.S a plus.
Effective communicator (written and verbal) to multiple levels of the organization. Ability to communicate complex subject matters clearly to drive understanding.
