Job Description Summary

This is a key role within the BD Biosciences SORP R&D group. The successful candidate will be a product development leader who would work at an internal and external level collaborating on current projects as well as initiating and driving the development of key technologies to create the next-generation of research flow platforms. Key to achieving this will be the ability to provide novel solutions to evolving problems in the areas of optics, fluidics and mechanical engineering within the SORP model, drive projects through to release, and subsequently support implementations in the field.

The Sr. Project Engineer will be expected to be simultaneously involved in multiple high impact projects. The Sr. Project Engineer is expected to lead change, supply new and implement new ideas, and find innovative methods to accomplish goals. Works on complex optical, mechanical, electrical and electronic problems where their broad knowledge can be used to analyze situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

  • Key member of multi-functional internal/external project teams of various sizes and scale. Major objectives may include: developing new and differentiating features within the SORP product portfolio, improving manufacturing operational efficiency, optimizing product design, improving customer satisfaction, and performing basic research and development

  • Must be an adept and experienced problem solver who is able to resolve root cause of difficult technical issues.

  • Ability to implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Issues are typically multi-disciplinary in nature: mechanical, optical, electrical, and fluidic.

  • Drives engineering designs and documentation for completeness, clarity and manufacturability for successful design transfer.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of flow cytometer design including optics, fluidics, SW and electronics.

  • Hands on experience building breadboards, prototypes and production level instruments.

  • Demonstrated and established track record of troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

  • Experience in leading the design and development of systems and subsystems with internal and external partners.

  • Capable of working collaboratively on complex projects with a diverse group of subject areas/individuals

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with external leaders with vision

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication/ presentation skills

  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic

  • Require approximately 20% travel

  • 8+ years of product development experience

  • Ability to lead ambiguity and uncertainty in driven business environments

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Biomedical Engineer or other BS Degree with a combination of appropriate relevant experience.
