Job Description

The Sr. Scientist, Reagents & Assays plays a key role within the BD Biosciences Research & Development function.

The candidate will need to bring a strong continuous improvement approach to reduce development cycles, streamline technology transfer from R&D into operations. The candidate will also be part of the team contributing to sustaining projects as well as R&D support of World-wide regulatory product registrations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and analyses of R&D projects.

  • Maintain strong understanding of state-of-the-art science and technology development in the industry.

  • Participate in interactions with regulatory agencies. Provide technical input into safety and regulatory interactions.

  • Plan/participate in the sustaining projects, lead troubleshooting and risk assessment activities.

  • Effectively coordinate and establish effective working relationships and processes with other functional areas associated with the R&D activities, including Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Marketing, Manufacturing, Medical Affairs, etc.

  • Participate in streamlining processes related to PIRs and CAPAs to reach a rapid and effective conclusion.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the Life Sciences.

  • Proven experience in process excellence in an R&D environment.

  • Knowledge of Flow Cytometry instruments and applications.

  • Knowledge of biostatistical methods and data analysis experience is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures.

  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Effective organization and planning skills.

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic.


  • M.Sc., Ph.D. in Life Sciences or a combination of education.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in IVD product development.

  • Ability to influence through effective communication. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication/ presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate others.

  • Knowledge of clinical and/or research laboratory environment and quality control procedures.

  • Expertise in design of experimental procedures and search literature for targeted information.

  • Strong, proven product development knowledge of processes, measures, etc. (phase gated development systems).
