Job Description Summary # Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Scientist, Bioconjugation Chemistry with leadership experience, to join BD Biosciences R&D team. The successful candidate will be part of the Bead Process Engineering team involved in the new product development efforts for Flow Cytometry platforms to design and develop new fluorescent microparticles. We are looking for a candidate with chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering background and demonstrated extensive experience in bioorganic chemistry, proficient in analytical chemistry, fluorescence spectroscopy and bioconjugation chemistry. The associate will work under minimum supervision applying wet lab organic/aqueous chemistry techniques. Primary duties include: + Develop and execute studies including proof-of-concept, feasibility, specification, optimization, verification, and validation of microparticles. Works under minimum supervision. + Perform characterization tests to evaluate performance of the particles. + Characterize product performance on flow cytometers. + Transfer process to operations which includes writing SOPs for and technical reports. + Follow recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment. + Participates in environmental health & safety training before stating the position. + Participates in addressing corrective actions whenever a hazard is identified. Notifies supervisor of all observed unsafe work practices. + Participate in the troubleshooting of launched products technical issues. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: + Ph.D degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical engineering required. + Minimum of 8 years of post-graduate experience directly related in product development, and/or biotech industry. + Minimum of 2 years' experience with fluorescence spectroscopy, column chromatography, HPLC, protein and analytical chemistry. + Deep knowledge and track record of experience in bioorganic/conjugation chemistry, fluorescence spectroscopy and analytical chemistry. + Demonstrated ability to apply technical and innovative approaches to new product development. + Knowledge of design control process and track record of working in a cross-functional team. + Demonstrated ability to keep accurate and complete laboratory records and logs. + Capable of balancing multiple priorities and working on multiple programs. + Effective oral and written communication skills. + Effective interpersonal skills.
