BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Associate Engineer - Metrology in Sandy, Utah
Job Description Summary
Plan, design and coordinate the development and implementation of measurement system and related quality/engineering activities in any of the plants to support new product development projects through manufacturing scale-up, as well as existing production. Provide measurement system development and analysis support to new product development and technology teams.
Plan, implement and coordinate new measurement system development activities as well as changes to existing measurement systems. Utilize CAD, Contact, Non-Contact and CT Scanning metrology tools and instrumentation.
Interface with personnel from R&D, Device Molding, Quality, Manufacturing, Process / Assembly Technology (MTI) and outside metrology vendors.
Provide metrology support (Part Measurements, MSD/MSA, Fixture Design, GR&R, Data Analysis, Design Definition) for qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers as required.
Focus on specific technical projects in R&D, MTI, molding or other engineering disciplines assigned by Manager.
Coordinate and communicate assigned projects with the appropriate personnel and departments.
Specify metrology equipment, fixtures and procedures for new part designs that meet accuracy and repeatability (GR&R) requirements.
Write capital expenditure requests for equipment as needed. Prepare and manage the budget for metrology projects.
Install new metrology equipment and fixtures to support new product development, existing molding/manufacturing process changes, replication or scale-up. Responsible for documentation and training.
Initiate cost saving opportunities, perform CIP projects, and quality fix projects as assigned by Manager.
Develop and implement metrology processes for pilot production and scale-up programs.
Lead projects as assigned.
In own field of scientific/engineering competence, maintain up-to-date familiarity with developments through attendance at professional meetings, literature and consultations.
Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.
Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

Identify and complete metrology development projects resulting in metrology equipment and procedures that meet accuracy and repeatability (GR&R) requirements for the application, along with successful technology transfer to Device Molding or other outside production source.
Provide metrology support to Sandy MTI and external MTI groups.
Completion of Individual Impact Goals (IIGs).
Education : B.S. Degree in an engineering field. Plastics, manufacturing or mechanical engineering degree preferred.
A.S. Degree in an engineering field. Plastics, manufacturing or mechanical engineering degree preferred plus 4 years of related metrology engineering experience.
No Degree with 10 years of focused metrology development experience and a high school diploma / GED.
Experience : Zero (0) to Ten (10) years of experience (depending on education level) in related metrology engineering field.
Experience with Statistical Analysis software, Solid Works, Visio, Microsoft Office, Outlook and MS Project preferred. Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification preferred
Fully automated, contact/non-contact measurement instrument experience preferred. Fixture design and measurement instrument programming experience preferred. Standard measurement instrument experience also preferred.
