Job Description Summary

The Automation Reliability Controls Technician assists plant engineering groups with the development, implementation, and validation of manufacturing improvements related safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Advises and supports projects as assigned. Troubleshoots PLC programming issues as they arise in existing production equipment and develops new PLC programming for process and equipment design improvements. Updates schematics, drawings, and documentation during project execution. Researches and deploys solutions to controls obsolescence and reliability issues. Trains and mentors peers and other technical resources on controls knowledge and skills. Complies with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Complies with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles and engineering best practices.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Support and lead new equipment design and improvements to automation processes. This will include root cause analysis, PLC programming, electrical design, component selection, schematic modification, and assisting in validation activities.

  2. Programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting existing plant PLCs.

  3. Assist maintenance personnel and engineering with troubleshooting and repairing equipment in breakdown situations to ensure production efficiencies are achieved.

  4. Work with internal/external groups as required to complete project assignments. Assignments will include group projects as well as individual projects.

  5. Electrical and electronic troubleshooting.

  6. Maintain and develop machine vision quality systems used in part measurement and identification.

  7. Coordinate and communicate assigned projects and their status with the appropriate personnel and departments.

  8. Assist with documentation and training of technical personnel to ensure adequate support capabilities.

  9. Address controls obsolescence and reliability issues through planning, research, and deployment of new components and technology.

  10. Maintain up-to-date familiarity with new processes, developments, technology, and methodology through research, literature and training.

  11. Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations.

  12. Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

  13. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

This position has the following minimum educational requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED: Required

  • Associate's Degree: Required - Automation and Electrical Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or similar discipline

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment preferred

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Effective Oral/written Communication - Proficient

  • Ability to work as part of a team / Teambuilding - Proficient

  • Independent thinking / Self Driven - Proficient

  • Decision Making Ability - Proficient

  • Troubleshooting / Problem Solving - Advanced

  • Computer Skills / Microsoft Office - Proficient

  • PLC Programming – Proficient
