Job Description Summary

Demonstrate hands-on advanced Machinist working knowledge with three to five years of full-time in-depth experience operating CNC Machining Centers, Precision Grinders, Screw Machines, Tumblers, Band Saws, Lapping Machine and Pedestal Grinders. Specific experience must directly support the machining of key components utilized in the manufacture of BD Medical products. Candidate must be familiar with these unique machines and be capable of handling full preventative maintenance requirements and managing all aspects of production demands including inspection and packaging associated with the production of BD unique products. Must be able to read and understand and program in Master Cam Solid Works and be proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and be able to work from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions. Candidate must be able to use and understand precision measurement equipment including calipers, gauges laser micrometer and optical comparators.in the validation and final inspection of their products. Machinist/ Operator 3 must be capable and willing to train and mentor Machinist/ Operator’s 1 and 2as required to help improve the overall capabilities and depth of the Sandy BD machine Shop Team. Successful candidate must be able on a recurring day to day basis operate two CNC machines handling all programing, part load unload inspection meeting Operator #3 daily output expectations.

Note: This is a 2nd shift Position working Monday thru Thursday 10 hour shifts with overtime available on Fridays / Saturdays as work needs dictate.

Work Schedule-4 days/Wk, 10 hours per day. Monday Through Thursday.

start time between 2:00 PM -12:00 AM

Perform many types of precision machine work including, but not limited to, manufacturing spare parts for manufacturing equipment, components for prototype assembly stations, and machine tools. Must work from drawings, sketches, and verbal instruction.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Evaluate work orders for accuracy, install / set up appropriate tooling/ fixturing identify- validate and load correct material, produce accurate machined part and validate to drawing using standard metrology inspection tools.

  • Manage personal time and resources to ensure work orders are completed on schedule.

  • Capable to efficiently operate (2) CNC Milling Centers simultaneously on a day-to-day basis producing high quality parts and performing self- inspection on said parts.

  • Ensure emergency work orders receive top priority.

  • Ensure that raw materials are available for upcoming work orders.

  • Support department buyer planner with raw material follow up and routing.

  • Ensure all equipment and area are properly cleaned and maintained per Preventative Maintenance and 5S guidelines.

  • Actively participate in Continuous Improvement activities through blitz participation (as required), making suggestions (Kaizens) and otherwise improving processes, quality, and productivity.

  • Collaborate with the Machine Shop Coordinator to assure material/tooling availability.

  • Proficient in general machining operations and applications.

  • Be willing to certify on several machine centers (Royal Master Grinder, Citizen Screw Machines Others as determined by Machine Shop Supervision) and rotate to high demand areas as work needs demand.

  • Manufacture standard and non-standard mechanical components to extremely close tolerances.

  • Develop fixtures required to manufacture parts.

  • Read, interpret, and understand a drawing (standard and metric) including fundamentals of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Capable of using various precision measurement devices and technique.(micrometer , height gauge, calipers, optical comparator).

  • Demonstrate and perform self-inspection of machined parts that you produce ensuring that they meet the exacting requirements of the engineering drawings and specifications prior to submittal of said parts to department quality assurance representative.

  • Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Hazardous waste regulations.

  • Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

  • Other duties as assigned.

CNC Experience

  • CNC programming experience (min of 3-5 years’ experience MasterCam preferred)

  • CNC mill experience (min of 3-5 years of experience with three and four axis HAAS and/or Fanuc preferred)

DELIVERABLES:

  • Achieve machine shop lead time commitments

  • Ensure timely completion of all emergency W/O’s.

  • Manage individual resources to ensure optimal output with minimum overtime.

  • Ensure that tooling and materials are used effectively to reduce excessive waste and spending.

Qualification:

  • Preferred qualifications include High School Graduation or GED Certificate with solid understanding of basic computer literacy.

  • Firm mechanical knowledge base and ability to read and understand blueprints.

  • Must have 3 to 5 years demonstrated fulltime experience in the operation of CNC Milling Machines Grinders / Screw Machines type machinery.

  • Must also be fully capable to handle all required preventive maintenance of these types of machines and be able to trouble shoot typical mechanical breakdown and unplanned maintenance issues as they occur.

  • Must be able to take on full preventative maintenance tasks on weekly/ Monthly quarterly and annually basis per manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule.

  • Must also have the technical ability and willingness to inspect the parts that are produced meeting all Sandy BD Engineering and Quality Assurance standards and QQL level of part sampling size requirements.
