The Machine Shop Mold Maker is responsible to provide direction, motivation, and support to Tool Makers, Mold Technicians, and Tooling Coordinators. The Mold Maker makes make/vend decisions and ensures that all work orders are properly resourced with tooling, material and expertise. The Mold Maker ensures that all above associates are properly trained, and enforces compliance with established procedures and work instructions. The Mold Maker operates shop equipment to produce machined prototype parts, molds, and equipment used in the development of new products or changes to the existing products. Mold Maker will repair, maintain, and troubleshoot mold issues. Work from verbal instructions, hand sketches, or complicated blueprints. Work is checked against design with the use of precision measuring tools. Participate in mold design reviews. Troubleshoot existing mold failures for root cause and resolution.
Under general guidance and supervision, operate shop equipment to produce machined prototype parts, molds, and equipment used in the development of new products or changes to the existing products. Work from verbal instructions, hand sketches, or complicated blueprints. Work is checked against design with the use of precision measuring tools. Work with limited or no supervision.
Shift: Day 7:00 to 3:30 Monday thru Friday.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate lathe, mill, drill press, EDM equipment, NC machining equipment, and various grinders with the proficiency required to produce the parts vital for the construction of new prototype or production machinery, equipment, and molds.
Perform machining tasks vital for the maintenance and repair of prototype or production equipment to support Technology and Manufacturing.
Plan and lay out work.
Make standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds of machinery.
Select materials, part, and equipment required for each assignment.
Able to work from complicated blueprints, schematics, or verbal instructions to produce simple and complex mechanisms, tools, jigs, and fixtures.
Perform Preventative Maintenance on molding equipment.
Able to use precision measuring instruments and hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks.
Comply with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures including RCRA Hazardous waste regulations.
Comply with all local BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Five years (min) of related experience with Plastic injection molds and liquid silicon molds.
Journeyman card preferred.
Proficient use of mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM preferred.
Five to ten (5 to 10) years of experience in a related field is necessary. Must be able to operate lathes, milling machines, and grinders with a high degree of skill.
Must have extensive knowledge in injection, mold building, and tool and die fabrication.

The incumbent may be frequently required to stand and/or occasionally sit for extended periods of time. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required. The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift to 20 lbs., frequently lift up to 10 lbs., occasionally pulling/pushing up to 30 lbs., frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs., frequently carry up to 5 lbs.
The position will almost always have exposure to work near moving mechanical equipment, and potential temperature fluctuations.
Occasionally the position will have exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, cleaning compounds and solvents.
The incumbent may be exposed to noise levels in the work environment moderate to loud.
Employees must have normal field of vision corrected to 20/40 in each eye and must have hearing sufficient to safely operate material handling equipment in a manufacturing/distribution environment.
The incumbent must be willing and able to wear required PPE such as, safety glasses, face mask and/or shield, hearing protection, safety shoes, hair and beard net and smock.
