Job Description Summary

The R&D team is seeking a highly talented and passionate individual to help us identify and implement innovative solutions to address current and future health care needs in the Peripheral Vascular Access markets. Within BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Research & Development, the associate in this position will be part of the Vascular Access Device R&D team. Our Senior R&D Engineers are responsible for leading, developing, and implementing new product designs and critical component changes for high volume, disposable medical devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs test protocols including organizing, supervising, and finalizing testing and test datasheets, writes test protocols or procedures, with limited supervision

  • Advises, trains, and mentors junior engineers

  • Follows, interprets, and understands Design Control elements for product development, demonstrates ability to create a development plan, input requirements, verification/validation documentation, and support product transfer activities with limited supervision

  • Collects data and conducts statistical analysis; evaluates complex systems using engineering first principles and transfer functions to establish concept and prototype generation, prototypes design and production to evaluate empirical data, presents sound arguments of design down-selection based on engineering analyses with limited supervision

  • Plan, architect and implement new medical product solutions from design inputs to commercialization of new, ground breaking products to improve patient outcomes

  • Champion technical and architectural excellence; Ensure correct technology choices and champion exceptionally high standards in terms of alignment to best practices; Lead by example in terms of high design control practices, performance, robustness, all of which are core tenets for medical device development.

  • Implement innovative technologies to provide best, current solutions to improve patient outcomes.

  • Set development standards and practices for the team, including guiding industry standards organizations.

  • Collaborate and provide technical and design guidance and suggestions within the team

  • Oversee and monitor projects and initiatives for technical and architectural soundness.

  • Perform discovery and estimation of potential customer (clinician and patient) unmet needs, clinical and medical requirements, and successful outcomes for procedures.

  • Provide intellectual property for technical solutions and designs to protect and secure competitive advantage for the business.

  • Provide guidance and technical expertise to find root cause and fix product and process problems

  • Lead CAPA efforts and know how to resolve and close out CAPAs

  • Be an authority for product design, science, engineering and processes

  • Present complex data in a clear and concise manner to all levels of the organization

  • Provide experience in multi-functional collaboration and leadership skills

  • Foster external, industry wide technical and clinical partnerships.

  • Creates budgets for projects

  • Creates project plans, including a scope summary, schedule, and resource needs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Post Graduate degree (preferred) in STEM or related field

  • Minimum of 3 - 5+ years of professional experience in product development engineering

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in medical device development preferred

  • Medical device design and development experience related to high-volume manufacturing is preferred

  • Experience in product development with electro-mechanical, sensor and / or digital technologies experience with a background in IoT or IoMT strongly preferred
