Job Description Summary

This position also reports indirectly (dotted line) to the Segment OPEX Leader, who will provide additional oversight and guidance to the incumbent, during the execution of his/her work.

I. Main Responsibilities
1. Key tasks and strategic accountability:
Lead strategy development and deployment (SDD). Ensure strategic alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators (KPIs’) top down and bottom up. Support business unit leadership team in creating strategic vision of improvement goals, business master plan (deployment roadmap and maturity expectations based on priorities) and governance process across all functions and sites. The majority of time to be spent in the factory environment directly developing capability.
Challenge existing paradigms, encourage, and promote internal and external benchmarking. Develop and grow zero loss mindset across critical areas to optimize safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
People development, especially with regards to Business OPEX managers and Plant OPEX managers. As the OPEX function leader for a business unit, guide, coach, and show strength in BD Excellence concepts and systematic approach, including strategy development & deployment (SDD), core components, Zero Loss approach and all related methodologies/tools. Ensure execution of and resource breakthrough Kaizen events. Develop and grow capability through components and component teams to establish the fundamentals of excellence in safety, quality, and reliability. Coach and guide business unit leaders to ensure focus of resources and time on priorities.
Continue to drive BD Excellence capability development and impact through deployment of progressively sophisticated aspects of component methodologies. Achieve long term CI objectives through cross functional alignment of all resources toward shared goals.
Works closely with the Business Unit OPEx Managers, Plant Managers and Site OPEx Manager to support the development and implementation of the improvement strategy for their BD Excellence Maturity.
Drive collaboration within business unit to generate, sustain, and deliver a multi-year Cost to Win (CTW) portfolio, be responsible for governance processes, and optimization of loss awareness and loss landscape for entire business unit. Meet or exceed CTW goals by supporting Focused Improvement team savings projects. Create and handle CI budget. CTW scope is focused on improving operational performance that manufacturing plants are accountable for. Does not typically include enterprise CTW initiatives such as changes to product design, manufacturing location, etc.

3. Impact on results
Degree of Accountability:
Accountable for the achievement of cost-to-win performance on operational efficiency for the business unit.
Has a strong direct impact on strategy execution of the business unit.
Often leads project / initiative teams or plays a key sponsorship role of the teams accountable for the achievement of key OPEX goals and key operational goals, including BD Excellence capability development to achieve sustained SQDC performance improvement, cost-to-win, drive OEE /OLE with purpose.
Erroneous decisions may result in considerable expenditure of human capital and budgeted resources.
Financial Impact :
Has significant impact on cost and productivity for the business unit. Responsible for business unit Operational CtW performance.
Handles BU OPEX budget.
Accountable to maintain and optimize business unit loss landscape and multi-year cost-to-win project pipeline.
II. Required skills and knowledge:
Technical Area of Expertise:
Demonstrates mastery of one or more areas of BD Excellence and has direct experience in owning the application of Operational Excellence / LEAN production.
Demonstrates expertise in problem solving, as well as training and coaching others.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other bachelor’s degree.
Master’s degree desirable, e.g., business administration / LEAN production.
Previous experience in implementing, and strong knowledge of, Lean and Six Sigma business systems. Six sigma black belt certification preferred.
Demonstrated passion for safety, customer centricity and operational excellence.
Minimum 10 years manufacturing experience / leadership experience in a plant/
3 to 5 years of Experience leading Kaizen events, coaching and challenging at multiple levels of the plant’s organization to accelerate capability development and pace of improvement.
Excellent understanding of the interaction between operational excellence and customer service.
Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills with people at all levels.
Consistent track record in project or program management.
Experience of working in a multi-site and multi-cultural environment.
Business acumen and ability to display the linkage between projects and desired business results.
Minimum 3-years’ experience operating a production system. Certified or recognized as a Production System practitioner/specialist in multiple components of the Operating System.
Personal Specification:
Flexible and able to travel. Expected travel up to 75% to be present within plants driving Kaizens, improving flow and developing/growing capability within the site.
Must be collocated at a large or significant site within the BU, preferably Baltimore (e.g. Sparks).
