Job Description SummaryThe Manufacturing Laboratory Technologist is responsible for planning and managing all aspects of the Latex and Rapid Manual Technology (RMT) manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Production of reagents and latexes to support Rapid Manual Reagent Manufacturing for the ID/AST Plant including, but, not limited to, manufacture of reagents, and coupling of antibodies to latex , as well as all supporting reagents including buffers, bulk reagents, test standards, and controls.
Production of substrates and solutions to support Crystal Manufacturing as needed.
Meets forecast requirements and inventory objectives as planned.
Coordinates work activities with Planning, Engineering, Quality, R&D, and other functional areas to meet the required schedules, inventories, quality standards, and customer needs.
Coordinates all manufacturing activities to ensure goals are accomplished and communication occurs within the group and across all functions/shifts that interact with the group.
Ensures availability of all documents and materials required for successful execution of the production plan.
Controls all material flows and manufacturing operations.
Performs all duties in accordance with ID/AST Plant Operating Procedures and all applicable BDDS Quality Procedures.
Strives for continuous improvement in all areas. Helps identify problem areas and implement changes to improve performance.
Effectively interacts with all levels of associates and all functional departments in the organization, and external customers as needed.
Defines job standards. Encourages participation and feedback by all associates and actively supports appropriate training and development of associates.
Fosters communication and cooperation within and across manufacturing sub-teams and plants. Facilitates decision making and conflict resolution.
Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves complex issues associated with scientific operations.
Leads and/or provides support on special projects.
Demonstrates the ability to follow established procedures according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Must follow all BD housekeeping policies and procedures.
Must follow all BD safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of chemistry and microbiology.
Proficiency with aseptic technique, media formulation, and basic laboratory equipment (e.g. pH meters, spectrophotometers, centrifuges).
Familiarity with protein purification, column chromatography; molecular biological, microbiological, and cell culture techniques; FPLC; HPLC; protein gels; cGMP/QSR manufacturing environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to seek and accept feedback from others.
Ability to share knowledge with others.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements, process validations, safe work practices, and ISO 9000 requirements.
BS degree in a Science field (e.g. Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Immunology).
5 years of laboratory experience.
Broad knowledge of regulatory requirements, manufacturing, and the medical diagnostic industry.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work with all levels of personnel from company president to production associates.
Ability to plan at a high level, but execute at the detail level.
Understanding of SAP (PP/PE) preferred.
