Job Description Summary
The Scientist I plays an active role, both individually and as part of a team, in developing, qualifying and supporting diagnostic products for use in the clinical microbiology laboratory.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works under the general direction of a Sr. Scientist, Staff Scientist or R&D Manager.
Works primarily as part of a team, to schedule and perform a variety of laboratory experiments.
Accurately records experimental results and may present those results to other R&D team members.
Drafts and reviews appropriate documentation as needed.
May partner with R&D colleagues, and associates from other departments, on project tasks, platform support, and other activities if required.
May assist in technical problem resolution.
Strives to remain current with the field and related technology developments.
Basic knowledge and understanding of clinical microbiology desired.
Understanding of molecular techniques preferred.
Strong laboratory skills, particularly aseptic techniques, micro-pipetting, handling pathogenic organisms, and related activities.
Proficiency with commercial computer software applications (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.).
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Technical writing experience (validation protocols, white papers, etc.) is desirable.
Experience in product testing and validation studies is highly desirable
Action-oriented team player that works well with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, medical technology or a related field.
Prefer a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
