Job Summary

Provides technical support for the Engineering department in the area of manufacturing execution systems and other plant IT systems. This associate will be tasked with system design, configuration, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) systems and other plant data collection or security systems. This will include such systems as MIDL (Machine Information Data Logger), MESI (Manufacturing Execution System Interface), FTTM (Rockwell FactoryTalk Transaction Manager), FlexNet Apriso, SPC (Statistical Process Controls) and all other data collection systems as identified. The associate will work closely between IT and engineering in the installation, qualification and validation of new and existing MES systems. The associate will aid IT and facilities, as needed, in the support of any IT based plant physical security systems. The associate will also share job functions with the Engineering Team including application support and other projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads teams working with business partners to evaluate business processes and find opportunities for applying technology, particularly around machine data collection and manufacturing execution systems.

  • Makes recommendations for future expansion of new systems and technologies that improve performance, availability, service and management of the data collection systems.

  • The maintenance and safekeeping of operational services of the plant manufacturing execution system and other MES related applications, procedures and functions.

  • Implementation, optimization and support of systems to collect and analyze manufacturing related information with focus on existing and further MES and SPC systems.

  • Continuous improvement of systems in collaboration with the MES, SPC and other plant systems.

  • Work with Engineering Manager to set priorities and plan the strategic growth of site’s data collection and MES systems.

  • Work closely with engineering, QA, facilities and other functional areas to support their IT based applications and projects.

  • Supervise all assigned systems, ensuring appropriate maintenance and system repairs are completed in a timely manner. Document all issues and associated resolutions.

  • Ensure adequate cross training with Electrical Engineers so that associates are cross trained to ensure that we have skill redundancy on all IT systems.

  • Align with all IT department and Corporate IT policies.

  • Aid the Engineering department in ensuring all compliance based tasks are performed in a timely manner and within the Corporate IT guidelines.

  • Coordinates all phases of local IT standard project management requirements, including Computer Systems Design Validation (CSD&V), Project Execution and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This includes design, planning and performing of functional and technical acceptance tests.

  • Assist with end-user training on an ongoing basis, this includes but is not limited to mini-classes and one-on-one instruction.

  • Perform other duties assigned by the Engineering Manager.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Aligns with, and responsible for all local, state, federal and BD safety laws, policies/procedures, all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.

  • Ensures compliance through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound Quality Assurance principles.

  • Responsible for the activities and programs as defined for this position in the Quality Systems Manual - BD Sumter.

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Cross-trains in other functional areas as outlined by Engineering Manager.

EDUCATION

  • Degree (associate, bachelor) in Computer Science, business information systems, electrical engineering or other IT/engineering areas of study.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 3-5 years work experience in IT or related IT systems engineering field.

  • Strong experience in design and operations of MES systems.

  • Strong experience in specification, planning and execution of functional tests according to ITIL standards.

  • Strong experiences with implementation, maintenance and support of IT hardware and software.

  • Good knowledge of data modeling and database design.

  • Good knowledge of SQL and\or Oracle database engines

  • Good knowledge of specification and design of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and human machine interfaces (HMI) and Machine to Machine Interfaces (MMI).

  • Good knowledge of network topology, area networks and protocols: Star topology; LAN; TCP

  • Support and configuration experience with the following network devices/tools: Cisco catalyst switch; Allen-Bradley Stratix switches; network printers; Zebra/Datamax barcode printers.

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasion and interpersonal skills.

  • High operational-learning readiness and team oriented approach

  • Ability to formulate a strategy and execute in a timely manner.
