BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Reliability Engineering Supervisor in Sumter, South Carolina
Job Description Summary
Reports directly to the Engineering Manager. Responsible for leading reliability improvements for all five Sumter Business Units by focusing on improving uptime and reliability to help meet increased demand and budgeted cost goals as well as improving overall machine safety and quality. Organizes, directs, and supervises the plant’s reliability planners with dotted line responsibility for departmental PM coordinators. Utilizes his or her RCM application experience and SAP knowledge to lead the development of the local reliability process and sustain excellence in this area ongoing. Duties require application and execution of reliability engineering principles and drives RCM metrics in all plant functional areas including assembly, component manufacturing, facilities, and sterilization. Provides capable leadership and motivation to all associates and effectively executes all activities in compliance with the highest safety, quality, service, and total cost objectives of the business at all times.
Expected to lead by example in all areas of safety and to have solid working knowledge of essential safety processes such as OSHA Lockout Tagout, Guarding Subpart “O”, and NFPA
Incorporates predictive technologies and strategies into maintenance operations.
Develop and refine Failure Defense Plans via PM Optimization, (equipment maintenance plans), and repair procedures.
Analyze root cause of equipment failures and initiates corrective actions for FDPs, equipment design improvements, and accurate work practices.
Driving development and implementation of standards and specifications for equipment, facilities, and plant systems including parts standardization and cost reductions.
Participating in the design of new equipment and facilities to ensure that reliability is built into the design.
Provides direction and Industry Best Practices standards for the set-up of the CMMS architecture and BOM establishment within SAP.
Assisting associates with technical issues, equipment performance, root cause analysis, and technical training.
Works directly with Business Unit Engineering Supervisors and Facilities Management to develop an on-going replacement analysis program for capital equipment based on work order and preventative maintenance histories, reliability performance, OEM support, and cost.
Leading minor capital projects as necessary originating out of the proceeding job duties and expectations.
Coaches associates and performs yearly job evaluations consistent with BD’s PMP and IIG process.
Responsible for the development of quantitative and qualitative goals and strategies and the attainment of these goals, both for him/herself and his/her subordinates, which is consistent with Plant and Division annual and three-year strategy plans.
Assists the Engineering Manager in the development of an ongoing 3-5 year capital strategy to ensure asset integrity is maintained, capacity is available to meet demand, and existing assets operate in a fashion to meet all safety and quality expectations.
Assist operations and plant engineering to troubleshoot and solve technical problems pertaining to production machinery, equipment and process.
Supervises to ensure preventive maintenance is executed on all equipment in a timely and effective manner. Ensures that PM’s evolve over time to meet the current business goals of SQDC and predictive initiatives are implemented to address and prevent unplanned downtime events.
Designs, recommends and implements cost reduction projects for C2W, (Cost to Win), within the scope of annual plant targeted goals.
Other duties as required or directed by the Engineering Manager.
Demonstrated ability to improve maintenance and reliability through use of Problem Solving, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Streamlined Reliability Centered Maintenance, and Predictive Technologies.
Extensive practical knowledge of condition based preventive technologies such as Vibration Analysis, Thermal Imaging, Oil Analysis, Non-Destructive Testing, and Laser Alignment.
Knowledge of rotating equipment, machine design, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, bearings, lubrication, drives, and PLCs.
Demonstrated ability to develop, prioritize, and execute plans to deliver results on multiple projects and tasks to achieve critical operating objectives.
Small capital project management skills with change control and validation process expertise.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of plant, technical and management personnel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated the ability to effectively lead through influence of non-reports
Demonstrated leadership skills in consensus and team building across functions and levels in the organization (Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Hourly, etc.)
Knowledge of and ability to apply both safety principles and GMP/FDA regulation.
BS Degree in Engineering or extensive experience in a Reliabilityrole.
RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) Certification or at least 5 years implementing RCM projects.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a Reliability Engineering role within a manufacturing setting.
Previous supervisory experience leading project teams.
Strong preference for hands on working knowledge of CMMS,(Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
