Job Description Summary

The Global Medical Director based in the Greater China & CASAJ interacts extensively with external clinical stakeholders. S(he) must develop and maintain trust and acceptance by health care professionals (HCP) externally, and within the company because of shared values, strategies and business goals. The Medical Director position offers promise for betterment of patient care, scientific advancement and healthcare sustainability.

This position is responsible to conceptualize, develop and implement Clinical and Medical Affairs strategies and programs on a Regional Level in close coordination with the DC WW VP Medical Affairs and other DC WW Medical Directors, with a specific focus ( 85-90%) on the Greater China & CASAJ regions. In case of a decision to establish a field medical function, the Director manages field-based MSL (Medical Science Liaison) in the regions who play a critical role to foster bi-directional scientific interactions with top KOLs, practitioners and medical centers while ensuring the MSL team as well as other functions within the scope of Regional Medical Affairs adhere to the policies and procedures issued by BD as well as local & national governing bodies. This role also supports other regions as needed, hence, the Global position title. Additionally, there are interactions with Directors of Global and Clinical Marketing, DC Platform Leaders, local Country Business Leaders, Clinical Associates, Marketing Managers, HEOR, Market Access team and Field Reps. The Medical Director is a member of the DC MA, DC China and DC CASAJ Leadership Teams, and of the DC Global Medical Council.

This position serves as primary source for clinical and scientific information for external HCPs for Diabetes Care products, services and innovations, including evidence related to insulin injection and infusion delivery, as well as Digital Health. The Medical Director must develop and maintain ethical, mutually-beneficial peer-to-peer relationships with national/regional top thought leaders and key HCPs, with frequent face-to-face interactions. The Position’s remit includes scouting new trends; conceptualizing innovative approaches; designing and running clinical studies; interpreting, publishing and presenting results; facilitating new treatment recommendations; improving clinical practices; providing education and training (within DC and external); and assisting with questions regarding patient management issues, when appropriate.

Job Description


  • Sense new clinical and marketing trends and translate these into actionable insights and strategies for the business

  • Establishing strong relationships with key medical authorities

  • Engage with existing HCP and professional groups having insights and values of strategic relevance to BD-DC

  • Act as primary contact in the Greater China & CASAJ for medical and scientific questions for both new and existing products

  • Determine Greater China & CASAJ centers for scientific studies in conjunction with key MA and business leaders.

  • Ensure compatibility and compliance of all claims for Greater China & CASAJ regional promotion with supporting clinical/scientific data

  • Develop and gain acceptance by WW VP DC Medical Affairs and BDDC Business LT regarding US Medical Plan (KOL engagement, most relevant patient profiles, clinical trial, publication &market development plans) for each of the major pillars of focus in the Greater China & CASAJ.

  • Review and approve Greater China & CASAJ focused external communications

  • Address serious product or patient safety issues by direct intervention with involved HCPs as well as within BD processes

  • Provide training for Greater China & CASAJ Clinical Marketing team, as well as for other BD personnel and external HCPs, as appropriate. Use webcasts for efficient, global training

  • Assist with legislative, market access and reimbursement efforts across wider fronts, both at national and local levels

  • Organize regional and international congresses, workshops, advisory boards, etc. with influential HCPs to exchange insights, help map out BD-DC strategy and advance the field of diabetes, relevant to the DC business

  • Attend and give talks at national and international meetings / conferences

  • Develop Greater China & CASAJ clinical trials strategy in collaboration with DC WW VP and Greater China & CASAJ business leaders

  • Ensure performance of trials according to local regulations, GCP and BD’s SOPs.

  • Ensure appropriate statistical analysis, writing, reporting, publishing and presenting of trial results, including assisting / collaborating with HCPs, as needed

  • Achieve broad, effective external exposure for study data BD generates or which is relevant to BD’s produces and strategy

  • Support GCD and BDXMA in managing all studies in humans conducted by BD-DC in the Greater China & CASAJ regions to ensure coordination of the study timelines, budgets and data analysis. Translate discoveries into language and strategies most useful to Business leaders.

  • Travel: Approximately 35-40%, (including Greater China, CASAJ and international travel)
