Job Description Summary

This position is responsible to conceptualize, develop and implement BDX or cross-BU Clinical and Medical Affairs strategies and programs on a regional Level in close coordination with the BU Heads of Medical Affairs at Global and Regional level, as well as with the Heads of Central Medical Affairs functions.

The role has oversight on all ongoing and future medical activities in the Greater Asia Region, including IISs, scientific relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), promotional and educational activities and materials; consultant and advisory meetings and medical scientific grants including budget responsibility.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:.

  • Assess & build medical affairs capabilities further down in the organization

  • Sense new clinical and health economics trends within the Region and translate these into actionable insights and strategies for BD

  • Establish strong relationships with key medical authorities and institutions

  • Engage with existing HCP and professional groups having insights and values of strategic relevance to BD

  • Act as primary contact in the Region for medical and scientific questions for both new and existing products in BD portfolio

  • Recommend regional investigators and sites for scientific studies.

  • Ensure proper implementation of PRC activities to ensure compliance and rigor in the promotional materials within the Region

  • Develop a Regional Medical Affairs Strategic Plan and gain acceptance by the CMO and the Regional LT.

  • Review and approve regionally focused external communications

  • Address serious product or patient safety issues affecting multiple BUs by direct intervention with involved HCPs as well as within BD processes

  • Provide training for Regional Commercial teams, as well as for other BD personnel and external HCPs, as appropriate.

  • Assist with legislative, market access and reimbursement efforts across wider fronts, both at national and local levels

  • Organize regional and international congresses, workshops, advisory boards, etc. with influential HCPs to exchange insights, help map out BD strategy and advance the clinical areas, relevant to the DC business

  • Attend and give talks at national and international meetings / conferences

  • Develop Regional BDX Evidence Generation strategy in collaboration with Central Medical Affairs function, BUs and Regional leadership

  • Ensure medical compliance to local regulations, GCP and BD’s SOPs.

  • Ensure appropriate statistical analysis, writing, reporting, publishing and presenting of portfolio level evidence, including assisting / collaborating with HCPs, as needed

  • Achieve broad, effective external exposure for BD generated evidence

  • Support implementation of Medical Information, Training and Medical Affairs Audit activities within the Region

  • Partner with Business Development for evaluating licensing opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to present complex issues in oral and written form. Excellent presentation skills of scientific and medical data to small and large audiences.

  • Proven leadership, people development and mentoring skills, to include director level and well as field-based personnel.

  • Proven influencing skills and success in driving organizational change in a complex matrix organization, through a collaborative style with the establishment of credibility and strong working relationships with cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and critical thinking skills.

  • Process-oriented and demonstrates a sense of urgency in completing deliverables through effective goal setting and a strong result orientation.

  • Must be able to organize, prioritize and work effectively in a constantly changing environment

  • In-depth knowledge of clinical and regulatory requirements for a multi-layer medical organization including field-based medical teams.

  • Knowledgeable in the areas of regulatory, commercial and clinical issues affecting the pharmaceutical /medical device and biotech industry.

  • Demonstrate ability to identify unmet clinical needs, evaluate product opportunities from a clinical perspective, and help develop strategies that leads to efficient development of such opportunities.

  • Working knowledge of safety reporting requirements for both drugs and devices.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of time.

Education and/or Experience:

  • MD (Preferred), PhD (Life Sciences), PharmD with optional MBA or equivalent management experience

  • 10+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical or medical device industry with at least 5 years in at least one therapeutic area of BD activity with clinical experience within the Region.

  • At least 5 years of direct management of Medical Affairs teams, including field-based medical teams (e.g., MSLs) at a national or regional level

  • Experience in working/interacting with Regional and regional commercial teams and demonstrated ability to successfully set medical direction across regions

  • Experience engaging with and appreciation of market access challenges, and of the payer landscape

  • Experience with engaging Regional KOLs, well-networked with KOLs in areas of BDX activities, and developing KOLs with engagement plans across regions

  • Academic applicants will be considered, with requisite clinical experience and prior interactions with industry (clinical trials, Advisory Boards, presentations, etc.)

  • Clinical trial experience with solid knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
