Summary/Purpose of Position

Responsible for the Woburn Chemistry Lab and testing in support of ongoing operations and engineering projects as needed. Responsible for providing technical and scientific expertise to assist with the execution of Chemical/Analytical testing and maintenance/improvement of test methods and laboratory practices and procedures.

Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities

  • Core responsibility is to execute testing in the QA Chemistry Lab for production (in process and FG lot release testing).

  • Oversee all technical aspects of the Chemistry Lab testing to support Woburn Operations and Woburn/Warwick engineering projects as needed, including technical support for Micro Lab testing as needed.

  • Participate in Test Method Development and Validation activity.

  • Interfacing with Operations Team Leaders, Mfg Engineers and Plant Management in the execution of

  • duties cited above.

  • Coordinate with Division project leaders and Manufacturing/Operations to plan and execute testing in support of transferring new products from design to production in Woburn.

  • Requires knowledge of Chemical Safety practices, i.e. disposal of hazardous waste.

  • Requires knowledge of chemistry and experience with test methods and procedures.

  • Requires a knowledge of common analytical methods, procedures, and standards.

  • Perform analytical analysis and providing data interpretation to support quality, operations, engineering, and product development efforts.

  • Reviewing scientific literature in order to stay current in the industry as needed.

  • Supervisory responsibility for Chemistry Lab technician(s)

  • Support Specific projects and deliverables as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:

  • Chemistry or Chemical Engineering BS degree with minimum of 5 years relevant experience, MS degree with minimum of 4 years relevant experience or PhD, with 1 - 3 years relevant experience.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry (Drug or Medical Device) and familiarity with Good Manufacturing and Documentation Practices.

  • Extensive knowledge of scientific principles, concepts, and application.

  • Demonstrated strong initiative and follow through in executing responsibilities, overcoming obstacles and balancing multiple priorities effectively through strong technical and/or leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated and continuous track record of contributing to technical assignments with command and leadership, specifically for new product development design transfer to manufacturing.

  • Statistical / Analytical capabilities and familiarity with the use of statistical software.

  • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

  • Must be able to trouble-shoot and problem solve to support successful Chemical / Analytical testing.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to direct/supervise laboratory staff of lower levels
