Overview of Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Market Access and Payment Policy will work alongside and report into the Director, Market Access and Payment Policy as well as the IDS and POC commercial organizations’ business units and platform teams to manage the tactics and strategies to shape US coverage and payment pathways, driving adoption of products in the marketplace. This individual will be responsible for interfacing with a broad range of stakeholders both internally and externally. This role will be critical achieving our access goals for COVID-19, women’s health and STI, and our Cervical Cancer screening portfolio in the US.

This individual will be an integral part of an increasingly important global core competency for BD. We employ a team of professionals who work closely with our business and country leaders to advance policies, shape payment pathways and identify optimal strategic and tactical reimbursement plans that ensure timely access to clinical diagnostics that improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

In order to ensure favorable market access to the portfolio, the Senior Manager will develop comprehensive strategies with counterparts in other functions, including Commercial, Regulatory Affairs, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Medical Affairs and R&D. The Market Access and Payment Policy function is part of BD’s Public Affairs team and regular cross-functional work with Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs colleagues within the broader Public Affairs team is integral to the role.

Senior Manager, Market Access and Payment Policy Responsibilities:

  • Developing and advancing advocacy strategies with payers and policymakers to drive favorable customer adoption, coverage, and payment for IDS products currently marketed and in development

  • Support the development and implementation of payment policy and product reimbursement training as well as implementation of sales tools for the IDS commercial team that leverages payment opportunities for coverage

  • Addressing market access challenges across various settings of care and delivering key updates to internal business leadership and customers in a timely and consistent manner

  • Communicating complex concepts in a way that may be understood by a broad range of external stakeholders including C-level hospital and payer executives, physician thought leaders, and revenue cycle management teams

  • Executing on high-level pull-through efforts in conjunction with the Director, Market Access & Payment Policy to drive coverage and adoption of innovative diagnostics

  • Managing relationships with outside consultants and vendors providing prior-authorization and coding support, and managing engagement with the sales team to disseminate this information to customers and field/answer customer inquiries

  • Delivering presentations at medical society or payer forums as needed

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree required, advanced degree highly preferred

  • 5+ years of experience working in the health care industry at a medical device or bio-pharmaceutical manufacturer, consultancy, trade association, or medical society

  • Foundational knowledge of the US healthcare system including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers

  • Experience engaging with medical societies, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), commercial health plans, and legislative stakeholders (preferred)

  • Proven track record of securing reimbursement for health care products through the creation of tactical and strategic market access plans (preferred)

  • Solid understanding of market access principles and US health policy

  • Foundational knowledge of health care coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)

  • Previous experience working on, or with government relations teams

  • Demonstrated track record of being able to lead cross-functional initiatives effectively

  • Familiarity with assessing HEOR considerations for commercial success

  • Analytical, problem solving, persuasive ability to develop and implement strategic plans

  • Location preferred in or near Sparks, MD, Washington DC, or San Diego, CA, OR REMOTE with expectation that travel to sites

  • Travel as required: approximately 25%
