About the Role

The Operations Manager plans, organizes and controls the V. Mueller UDI marking and cleaning & passivation, Packaging & Labeling activities in close alignment with the sourcing and quality team within corporate, BU as well as local functional team members.

The Operations Manager is also responsible for the BD Corporate EHS and local occupational health and safety policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and organize in-house production flow as well as capacity planning and production schedules

  • Evaluation of operational SQDC metrics, especially bottle-neck process optimization

  • Work with cross-functional team to ensure site readiness for any new processes (i.e. fixtures, laser programs, storage locations, BOMs/routers)

  • Close alignment with US production / manufacturing counterparts to assure adherence to BD requirements

  • Act as interface between the BDI OPS team, the local V.Mueller sourcing and quality, as well as the various internal project teams

  • Adhere to validation and verification metrics within the production process

  • Performing process validation and verification of new equipment

  • Responsibility for developing annual OPS budgets, strategic goals and target achievement metrics

  • Implement corporate goals (reduce production time, improve efficiency and turn-around time)

  • Supplier evaluation, price and contract negotiations for equipment related to UDI marking activities

  • Lead, manage team members responsible for operations

  • Train, monitor and coach team, set goals and provide feedback

  • Management of equipment repairs and cost. Work with quality team on PM and calibration schedule to prevent adverse impact on production

  • Deliver on continuously improving production quality and productivity (process optimization)

  • Training and educating associates.

  • Compliance with the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements of BD

  • Implement, enforce, and maintain BD Corporate EHS and local occupational health and safety policies and regulations.

  • Punctual completion of the assigned training courses in C2C

  • Reporting of errors/changes in the service processes to superiors and/or quality management

About You

Education

  • A bachelors degree in engineering and appropriate professional experience in the field of medical devices is advantageous. Master degree in business administration/finance (Preferred)

  • Certification as a safety officer (Preferred)

  • Six Sigma Green Belt (Preferred)

Skills

  • Fluency in German and English

  • Knowledge of MS Office and ERP systems

  • Experience in leading and managing teams

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

Competencies include: Strong project & program management, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong multi-task & situational management, personal & group leadership, strong interpersonal skills, excellent computer skills, strong technical understanding and strong results orientation are required for effective performance in this job

Experience

  • Experience in manufacturing of surgical instrumentation or similar technical products in a regulated environment and profound knowledge of material compositions and their reaction to laser marking and cleaning & passivation activities

  • Experience managing and driving production teams and metrics

  • Ability to effectively manage technical processes

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with remote teams to drive efficient design transfer and implement changes

  • Experience in a regulated industry with Quality Management System

  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices as well as ISO and FDA standards

  • Experience in managing people

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ supervisory experience in the following areas: manufacturing, production, operational excellence

  • Experience in EHS
